My Dad has an '06 F350 with 64000 miles on it. Anytime the temp drops below 30* it won't start. If it's plugged in it will, but he says he never used to have to plug it in until it got even colder out, and he feels it shouldn't need to be plugged in at 30*. He says it acts as though the glow plugs aren't working right, but that he doesn't think they are the real problem. Any ideas?

    i don't have glow plugs...

stupid question, but does he cycle the plugs before starting when it's cold? they could just not be getting warm enough. i don't know a whole lot about strokes, though.

If when you say "cycle" you mean turn the key and wait for the little picture do disappear off the dash then yes. Maybe I shoulda mentioned that this isn't the first diesel he has owned, and he bought this one brand new so it's not like he is entirely clueless about the truck.

He did, and he's had the problem for a couple months. He just tried for 15 minutes earlier today and it wouldn't start. I went down to try and it wouldn't start either, but by that point it had been plugged in for a few minutes and it started after a couple tries.

When he's gone and I need to drive his truck I get the same problem, and I do wait for long enough, and I do try multiple times.

I read a few issues with cold starts on the 6.0. Thesis the reason strokes come with a block heater, diesels don't like to start in the cold. I have mine plugged in to a timer that comes on a couple hours before i leave in the morning. Check out superdutydiesel.com a lot of good info.

Check the batteries, sometimes when it's cold if those batteries are even a little weak it won't turn over. I plug mine in anything below 40.
