So I'm back up in the air about sas or long travel and I wont be solid on one for a wile so probobly no suspension upgrades for a wile other than a lvl posted from my texting machine thingy
prerunner maniac at your service whats your long travel questions? I bet I can answer just about all of them. and with SAS it would reallly make it worth it if you did a 4-link with C/Os or a 3-link with a panhard bar. dont chimp out and go leafs, thats easy but with first hand experience this last weekend from my trip, going with a 4-link flexes a lot (and i mean a lot) better than leafs. plus the ride was smoother. for an axle go with a dana 60, some say you can get away with a 44...but ull blow it then be pissed. dont go crazy stupid on height. do just enough to run....40s on the street. anything bigger and it will be pretty much useless unless its an all out buggy. youll be jacked sky high and not have a low COG and roll a lot easier.
OK gee still don't have the money any way ill stick with prerunner, my question is were do I start? posted from my texting machine thingy
well reliaze this...ull spend A LOT for a good setup. number 2 what will you be using it for? a straight lift is gonna be good for some fun, a mid-travel kit is gonna be for more/lil faster fun and a full long travel kit is for high speeds in the desert where jumping is without question. Ive got my 7.5in lift and its good, hasnt let me down but... I want to get lower and have much faster flex (droop and tuck) something that will "float" over rough terrign. mid-travel will do that easily. here are some mid travel kits: camburg: best in the biz, and you get what you pay for: 6.5 Performance Offroad System | Camburg Engineering $2000.00 Parts replaces the upper control arm and uses a uniball joint (much better than a regular balljoint allows for more travel) uses stock lowers, bilstein shocks and probably s "thinner" spring for easier travel. heres a thread about the kit: '97-'03 F150 Camburg 6.5 kit and thats the only kit I have found on the internet. a lot of companies are swinging around to doing mostly long travel kits...but theres one company I got a quote from: BTF Fabrication, We can do a midtravel kit that will use boxed lowers that still retain a coil and tube or boxed uppers that use your stock or lift spindle. Bj or uniball lowers and uniball on the uppers. We sell these style kits for $2200. You will either use a regular bolt in shock or if you have some tools you can fit a 2.0 fox or whatever smoothbody shock in there but will require a little bit of welding. I offered the spindle and upper arm combo cause it's a little cheaper and is 100% bolt on. So with you being far away, we could find a vehicle to mockup with, ship it to you and you could install it yourself, no welding or cutting of any stock components. Let me know what interests you, we can do whatever that you like and try and stay within your budget. Im going to work with them to design something that will use all uniballs and heims, probably get a lift spindle and be able to run 33s easy and with some fenders run 35s or 37s. as you can see the prices starting to go up?....stay with me...going up in the BA factor and getting serious about this check this, theres some companies that have long travel kits for a good price, the way you put them on is..well rip everything off and replace with new, no more coil buckets and spings, you get shock hoops and coilovers, atleast 3in wider per side run 35s-39s easy with fenders, atleast 15+in of travel in the front, very soft will fly over just anything without feeling bumps. very strong and durable, every joint is hand tig welded and looks very profesional. and for that you really pay for it. all these kits are for the front, ill get to the rear in a min. dixon bros: 97-03 F150 2wd Long Travel Suspension - Long Travel Suspensions - Dixon Bros Racing still uses a ball joint, good but a weak spot. price: 2500 for kit 1200 for C/Os BBR fab: 97-03 F150 Suspension price: $3600 not sure if that includes the C/Os CST: Ford 2WD F-150 1997-2003 FORD F-150 2WD - 7" LONG TRAVEL KIT W/ COIL OVER SHOCKS CST Performance Suspension - Lift Kit, Lift Spindle, UTV Suspension Kit, Shock, Upper Arm - Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota price: $2100, $1200 for shocks and another $900 for uniball spindles. H&M 1997 to present F150/Expedition suspension kits price: $4k without shocks and the very best, Camburg: Long Travel Offroad System | Camburg Engineering $5500.00 Parts, $1610.00 FOX/SAW 2.5″ Dual-Rate coilovers with Eibach springs $450.00 FOX 2.0 Airbumps -w- cans
thanks jarrett what would be a cheap set up that will hold me over till i can afford to go Long travel? like staying in the triple digits dose one exist? Like what dose it take to do a uniball setup? I was thinking about removing my bl running a 3" spindle with 2" springs and a 3" or 4" block in the rear If I did do a sas it would be with 1 tons and 44s it would be more of a show truck and some mud just because of the high cog
umm....nothing less than a grand.. lawl a good setup that I ran would be a 3.5" spindle and a 2in spring and for the rear run a det of deavers, (softer than regular leafs so they flex more) if you wanted to run 35s you would need more lift (dont do body lift on a truck your going to jump) so a 7.5" lift would be best but you would need bigger lift springs. with my lift I think it would be a lot better without the coil spacer so my joints would be happy, not that theyre bad or anything just slightly better and give me a tad bit more travel. you can use blocks but a huge block isnt recomended, you can but its gotta be steel not aluminum. and SAS my buddy is putting 44s in his pathfinder...not something you want under a 1/2 ton runnin 37-44s....but thats just my opinon...also my buddy with a jeep has rubicon axles theyre 44s but hes runnin his stock outers which are on 30s knuckes so hes got 30 outers and just royally F'd em up this last weekend...thank god it got us back to camp without fallin apart..
Hell, I don't think you can even got a pair of shocks for under $1000 that will hold up to desert running. Jarrett - You should hook him up with all your prerunner forums so he can cruise the classifieds. Or just sell him your set up
Ya that's true LOL How much is a 3.5 spindle Jarrett were in Texas are you posted from my texting machine thingy
