Picked up the "new" heads on Sat. Taking them to the machine shop today to have them inserted with good inserts so I don't have this issue again!

mad props man, ive always thought itd be a nightmare to pull one of these 5.4s,

I have a TIMESERT kit im selling specifically for this. id hook you up with a sweet deal too. The kit intalls carbon steel inserts into the heads. Super easy to do. PM if your interested. Its an awesome kit. I used it on my motor with the head on the motor and it was easy. Heads off the motor would be a walk in the park.

Just in case some of you were interested, I shot some pics of the cylinder walls. This motor has over 190K on the clock...

Ok so an update on the truck since my last post.

The heads I picked up at the junkyard were burnt in the cam journals, so I took them back and went and picked up a rebuilt set from O'reilly's. Already inserted and PI heads, so I threw them on and tossed the motor back in.

While doing this "swap" I put in some E3 plugs just to give them a go.

    Results:

I have noticed a BIG difference in the way the truck performs with the PI vs. NPI heads. Seems to have a noticable acceleration and sounds smoother than the NPI heads did. Also noticed that it idles smoother and runs smoother with these heads. (Now I am sure cleaning the pistons off helped and just having new heads too) But as of right now I have to give it up to the E3's and the PI swap. I would say if anyone is curious if it is worth it, YES do the swap and you wont be disappointed.
