How Hard is it to install headers on a '97 f150 4.6L V8 4x4? I was gonna do shortys cause i cant swing the money for long tubes and aftermarket headers are a better deal than replacement manifolds. also what would you recommend to buy. Looking to spend bout $200-$300.
i think the hardest part of putting headers on is getting the old manifolds off. them bolts break off alot of the time.
I would like to get longtubes but i aint got the cash. Only reason i want headers is because one of my manifold bolts is broken off and i cant get to it to extract it unless i pull the manifold. and the leak is really annoying. any way i can fix it without drilling and tapping it?
depends on how much of the bolt is left for a pair of vise grips. I've drilled a smaller hole in the bolt and placed a star head screw driver in the hole, its worked for me a couple times.
vise grips wont work, the stem of the bolt is inside the manifold flange. i was thinkin bout tryin an easy out bit, but im not sure. there isnt much room in there for tools.
Ok so my local muffler shop quoted me at about $700 for all the work and that includes my parts. Im thinking bout doin a set of pacesetter shorty headers and a cherrybomb extreme dual in single out with a turndown. I would keep the factory catalytic converters as well because the muffler shop wont remove them. Do you guys have any other suggestions as in headers or mufflers? im looking for that good low growl and i dont want a lot of pop in the higher RPM's.
I have the v6 and i just threw on a flowmaster super40 single in dual out with straight pipes out the back and i like it on my v6. It would sound great on a v8
I got nothing against Flowmasters but i think they all sound the same and they are for more high horsepower motors.
