    Update: The crack on my transmission pretty much goes all the way around the case so it is completely ******. but the truck still drives. anybody know what could have happened?

    heat plus a bad spot in the metal.

    I dont know how it could have gotten so hot after only driving for a couple miles, the truck itself has never had a problem shifting and has never ran low on fluid and it has never ran hot. Im confused.

    not sure from looking at your pics, but it looks to me like the adapter between the transmission and transfer case is what broke. If that's what happened, thats why your truck still drives fine, but leaks fluid. you just have to replace that. It cracked when your driveshaft came loose, having something that heavy swinging around wildly at a couple hundred RPM will do that.
