Well.........What do you guys think it would cost me. What would i need for a 4.6 or 5.4? Also since i have the base of base models the xl what all computer wise would i still have to replace. Or would say swapping in an older model like the 96 or 95 f150 v8 from another xl be easier? Just asking but at the same time im thinking about it.

Honestly, your best bet is going to be buying a donor truck and swapping everything over. Then you can sell the rest off that you don't use to recoup some money.

Well i could pick up a donor truck for around 1500 maybe less if i find the right one. I guess thats a good deal. I was hoping for less though. I guess i'd have to do tranny, motor and electronics?

I know for sure motor and electronics, probably transmission too if the bell housing don't line up. And definitely the PCM. You don't want to have to buy one of those new

In my own imaginary world, where. Respect for wome
the 4.2 trans does not mate w/ the 4.6/5.4, so you'll need a new trans. you'll need a new ecu, countless hours of rewiring... i'd just sell your truck and get something thats remotely close to what you are trying to achieve.

i've been talking about doing a 4wd conversion but the more i think about it the less i want to do. i'll need a new trans, tcase, plus everything up front. i'd have to redo my R&P cuz they dont make a 4.30 reverse cut. its just easier for me to sell my truck and buy a new truck, and i sadly suggest the same to you.

If you love how your truck looks, find another reg cab with the drivetrain you want, and swap bodies out, and mount all the donor trucks wiring back up in yours. About the easiest way unless you pull all this new electronic shat and drop an older motor in it.

Thats what every body has told me to do. Since i want more power, but i love my truck. I can't even most of the time think about departing with except for like a dream truck or also called a diesel. haha But on a serious note, how much leg room is the back of the extended cabs 97-03.
