So at very low speeds turning i get a shutter in the rear end aka the clutch packs in the back are going bad. I picked up a bottle of friction modifier to solve it. Question is, How much do i add? Do i have to drain my diff fluid to add it or can i just add it as is. My truck has about 82k miles on it. is it time to replace diff fluid anyway?

I had a shudder like that too and it was simply my u bolts needing a good tightening.

    Lmao x2.....

No but mine did that when I first got it... I just changed my fluid with some synthetic vavoline fluid that already had the modifier in it and haven't had any problems since..

I'm just wondering if it'll mess up my diff if i just add some FM to it instead of draining the diff. On the bottle it says to drain the diff but i don't see why i can't just add some

You may as well change your fluid. It's recommended at 100k

In my own imaginary world, where. Respect for wome
The modifier doesn't work well with oil that is already broken down. It's hard to modify crap ya know and that's what bad oil is: crap. I know th manual says 100k or something but I do my diff once a yr, twice if I was haulin more than norm. I also flush my tranny more than te manual says but that's why I'm runnin 140k on original power train. Cough up the $50 in diff oil and do it right. The oil is cheaper then buyin a new diff setup if that goes out.

u cant just simply add to it pb ....... when u fill a diff u take the plug out and fill it til i runs out the drain plug hole .... so technically it prob wont even hold a half quart or so before it runs over anyways ...... so u will have to drain it

that's what i needed to know. Looks like i have a project for next weekend. What gear oil do i use? and i got some universal friction modifier, should i go to the ford house and get the motorcraft stuff? i'm guessing i have to take the diff cover completely off and reseal it with whatever that is? Sorry i've never done this before.
