Different projectors different sized holes. Make a template, cut the right size hole for the projector, and you won't have an 1/8" gap. Heck some, like my ranger, only require a slightly larger hole than stock. Drill it out and screw projector in. Done. No glue or anything required. You obviously haven't researched enough.
And you would be wrong. We're not talking about a Ranger or one particular projector. The shrouds don't fit our reflectors either, which leaves a gap unless you buy 2 sets and do some scabbing together. Fig... too much of a PIA. That's why my truck isn't sporting a set.
Not too sit here and continue to derail his thread. But given the right projector of choice, they can fit without the huge ass gap. I've researched as much as anyone, and actually have a set sitting right here that i got for a steal. And havent installed, yet. Done properly, you will have minimal gap.
Guys, just wanted to clear up a few things here........ I'm the owner of Retro Shop LLC - I build the lights that Dave is advertising on his site. First up - pricing. Bottom line, I've seen a LOT of different pricing out there retrofits. Its why I'm doing them - I couldn't believe what some people charge for the same product I produce. For those customers that know what they are looking at, they quickly see the value. For those that are comparing a full HID setup vs a set of eBay projectors and slapping in a HID kit......well, apples to oranges guys. Waste your money on their product, or get it right the first time here. Secondly - how its done. I'll be blunt guys, there is no way I would send out a product with gaps. Thats an insane way to lose business. I'll be the first to say that I mostly work on Dodges. Fords, I've done a few. Mostly Super Duties, OBS, etc. The F150 lights in question - haven't done one yet - but I'm ready to take it on, and trust me, it will be done RIGHT. I haven't sold well over 300 sets in the past 2 years by half assing my work. There are varying ways to do each retro, and while I'm not here to share all my secrets - I can say that each set is different. The set of 05-07 Harley Super Duties that I cracked open last weekend, totally different than the 08-10 I've done, and the 12+ that I did. WAY different than the OBS or the 99-04 SDs I've done. Little more work, but it will be worth it in the end. I hope to get those done in a few weeks here (they weren't sold, just a set I picked up to play with). The discussion of custom lights always brings out the best in a lot of people. Its not a cheap mod, but the end result is WELL worth it. If you guys have any questions, reach out to me. Best way is email - [email protected]. Thanks guys, and I can't wait to start ripping into some of your headlights! "JJ" Jeremy McFail Owner, Retro Shop LLC
Thats why you pick the right projectors, shrouds etc. there are A TON of different ones. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you obviously do need to look into it more. Sorry for derailing this thread. I just don't like to see someone misinformed about products.
To each their own but I had rather have the projector that I WANT than the one that just "fits". That's akin to throwing a set of ebay bulbs in your stock housing just so that you can say you have HID's. I know all that I need to know about it. I spent days researching the method and then more days researching different projectors and lenses on countless sources. Plus, I don't own a Ranger or an SD. Can it be done? Absolutely. Can it be done without a ton of time, effort, expertise and with little modifaction to make it look factory and not like a hack job? Absolutely not. That's why Jeremy charges what he does, and rightly so.
Easy fellas , lets not ruin a good thing here . Ya like them great , ya want a set or info .. contact JJ . Lets not fight about other peoples products that do not compare to these at hand . Thanks Dave
Lets lighten the mood with some pics. LOL Here's some of the Ford's I've done to date: What we started with: during and installed: How about a set of 99-04 SD? 08-10s (a nice wild set!) to this: And some spiffy 12+ And......figured what the hell - I just ordered a set of 97-03 (I think thats right, correct me if I'm wrong guys!!) F150 Lightning replica lights. Time to have some FUN!!
