your stupid fig  FX4's either come in all one color with ptm bumpers or two tone dsg... and IIRC early 2004 fx4's had 3.55LS and everything after than had 3.73. i may be wrong

Okay so back to my original question, does my having a 3.55ls(what ever the hell that means) as opposed to a 3.73, have anything to do with my tranny dying?

mine is a 2004 FX4 with the 3.73LS running 35's all day long for over a year, hasn't broke the tranny yet.

I still doubt your 3.55 gears had anything to do with the tranny dying. The 04 tranny's weren't the best.

So is it beneficial then that we had them rebuild it?

I would. Don't get me wrong new gears would help it from not being dog slow. Let's face it your not grandpa going to the grocery store.
