Got a question for you guys. What could i possibly do to make my exhaust sound meaner? I know i have a v6 so theres only so mean i can go, but is there anything else i can do? Do high flow cats help improve the sound any? Or headers maybe? I would like to try and get a lower tone but like i said theres only so low my truck can go. Im also looking for a way to somehow cut out the raspy-ness at high rpms if thats some how possible to, or at least cut out a little more.

    This is what i got.

V6's are gonna be high and raspy no matter what. you can try deleting your rear cats, or replacing all 4 with hi flows.

only way ive seen is welding up a big resonator box to help deepen the tone, however it can have downsides like some drone and doesnt help performance

Well im gonna keep my muffler because its pretty new still. I just never realized how much high flows help the sound.

id definitely keep the muffler on there....too many states require one to pass inspection. you WILL though benefit from a CAT replacement. I don't know how the V6 motors are, but my 5.4L had not only a cat, but a bigass resinator on each side of the motor (2 cats, 2 resinators, lots of weight, crappy quiet sound). I was given a set of 3" bassani race cats that came with one of their lightning exhaust systems that the buyer/lightning owner didnt want....some reducers and a welding shop later, it sounded way better.

after that, youll want some means of a crossover if you have a dual system built. if you have your exhaust joined into one pipe before the muffler this trick wont help, and youre never going to get the sound you want w/o true duals, but I have a magnaflow X pipe crossover on my exhaust to even out the pressures.

third, the mufflers....i used to have a pair of 40 series (still have them if anybody is interested) and they sound good...but not great. definitely louder than stock. I just didnt like the sound, so I went and had a pair of flowmaster 10 series mufflers welded on the truck instead. MASSIVE difference, and it sounds awesome!

finally, the muffler-back. well in my case, WHAT tail pipes?! IMO, tail pipes are a waste of metal. some look cool, but I've always valued function over form, so I just had a set of turn-downs (aka dumps) welded onto my mufflers, and I've never looked back.

The sound of your exhaust is dependent on what you put into it. engineer your own, and youll often be pleasantly surprised with the results.
