So i've had an exhaust leak for about 6 wks or so. maybe 10 but who's counting.:flipthebird: anyways, i pegged it to be a bad gasket on the passenger. I go to do that swap sunday morning and found this:

Yea, I was pissed cuz these Gibsons are barely 3 yrs old, maybe 75k on them. SO I go to repair that by drilling out the hole just a bit and cleaning up the area.

I mix up some JB Weld and then slap it on. That stuff is liquid metal w/ a hardener, think of it as metal bondo. Its hard in 30 and fully cures in 15-24hrs.

I go to work this morning and damn it there is still a leak! I think it wraps around to the center of the collector, SOOOOO i am just gonna get a set of Long Tube Headers by Pacesetter.

PaceSetter Long Tube Headers, PaceSetter Quiktrip Longtube Headers

I'm getting a 4wd set cuz thats all I can find and I notice that these look like they are going to replace/delete my cat's. can anyone confirm that? Thanks!

I'm also open to suggestions of other brands/styles of headers. thanks!

they won't delete your cats. You will still need 1 for each side. You may need longer wires for your o2 sensor.

FTL!!! It didnt fix it cuz I still have a damn leak :Grenade:

yea i read a few reviews about needing something cuz your stock cats werent gonna fit well. I think w/ what it will take for me to get a set of LT installed, I might as well just get another set of Shortys and redo my exhaust for the same price. iono... tempted to ghost ride her off the cliff and claim insurance :poker:

hence why I haven't done it yet. I plan on redoing the whole exhaust. LT - hi flow cat x-pipe flowmaster series 10 muffler and call it done.

Gibson doesn't have a warranty on those shorty's?

I think i voided that warranty when I added JB. i looked at there limited warranty and I would still have to have a set to put on cuz they want me to send them in for inspection before I get a check cut, so that means i'd be header-less until then, and the truck would be imobile. and I aint doin a header job weeks apart ya know

Just get replacement shortys. Long tubes are better, but a little more work and money, which you have to save up for your Super Duty :D

I've had several sets of headers in the past and can tell you that it's next to impossible to seal them back while still mounted to the engine after they crack. JB weld is only a temporary patch as the high heat kills it and the stresses that cracked the header in the first place are still there working on that JB weld to pop it off. It won't last very long at all.

It looks like there's less than a handfull of companies making headers for these new engines and I've not had experience with any of those brands.

You could always pull it off and carry it somewhere to have it welded up... if the material hasn't thinned out too much.
