99 F250 V10 SD has developed a cold start valve tick

So I changed to 10w30 high mileage castrol and Lucas HD stabilizer not as bad at start up but still there .
I have read from some old hands that pouring a quart , when your a quart low , with ATF and running it for 100 miles will do the trick.
Anybody else confirm this ?
Obviously Ill need to drain the oil after 100 miles and then again possibly 200 miles later just to get it all out .
Sure would like my (new to me) ford to sound like it did when I bought it
