Just got the Dia test ran and got the results back from the test. I have an 05 expedition with a 5.4 3v V8. Code 0340 can circuit fault, timing keeps jumping out of spec also making noise. They want to remove timing cover to determine failure. Have any one on here experience this issue and what was the problem?
A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened: • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken •the camshaft position sensor may have failed •the PCM may have failed •there exists an open circuit •the crankshaft position sensor may have failed I've never worked on a newer 5.4 but I'd say the timing cover doesn't need to be removed to repair this error code. More input from other forum members.
Never go w/ what the first person says. Where was the test done? A ford dealership? If not I'd take it to them and let a pro look at it. IMHO
I had the CPM changed on the passenger side the other was still good. Has a slight tick, does not sound like a desiel though. But the Dia was also down at a ford dealership also. They said it sounds like either the timing belt or cam phaser are bad. Could that be it.
A slight tick is nothing, all the 5.4 3v do that. It gets a little quieter when you use 5w-30 oil. Go on YouTube and listen to bad cam phasers. It'll be obvious if yours have gone out. I would also recommend taking it to a dealer for a second opinion. sent from my igloo
