alternator check

Hi i am new to posting, but i have been lurking for some time and learnin.
I have a question, if i start up my truck and pull off a battery terminal, and the car runs fine this proves my alternator working properly. If i pull a cable from a terminal and the truck dies then the alt is bad. right?

I have an 05 XLT with about 75K miles on it.

That's a damn good way to fry an alternator on newer trucks though...just sayin'

 

understood. thats part of what i was originally asking. My 05 should be ok. Understand some noewer cars need the battery in the circuit to run

 

not a good idea on pretty much anything computer controlled...

 

I really recommend taking it to a local advance, autozone, o'reilly's etc and have them test it (they can do it on the vehicle or off)...

i pulled the alternator today and had autozone bench test it and it failed all 3 tests. i got as remanufactured one from a local auto parts dealer for $157. put it in, and i'm just waiting on the battery to recharge. thanks
