I was topping off my oil today since I was a bit on the low side and I noticed some strange goop on my oil filler cap and the filler neck. Anyone have any idea what this stuff is? And if I should be concerned? I'm due for an oil change in about 2,000km. I change my oil every 10,000km with Mobil 1 5W20 and a Motorcraft filter.

It's condensation mixed with oil. Don't worry about it too much. Just check every couple thousand miles.

I haven't seen it that thick either. But then again, I don't live as far north as you.

yea, thats pretty damn thick, even for that far north. I would replace your cap as it seems it doesnt have the greatest of seals. and just check it regularly to see if that clears up.

It's been hovering at around freezing to about +5 for weeks now. I'm going to clean it all off when I do my oil change. Thanks for the help!

Isn't there supposed to be a rubber o-ring on that oil cap?
