ok, so lately my truck has developed an intermittent missfire. its not throwing a CEL and it seems to be concentrated to a certain RPM range under load. from what i have read in my research, i have a coil that is going or is bad. I was going to take it in and have a full tune up performed, but for that amount of money, they can kiss my backside.

so my plan is to isolate the bad coil and swap it out, then change out the fuel filter for the heck of it. I then plan on trying that seafoam thing i have read so much about. if that clears all my troubles up, then on to the fun part.

Im going to order a tuner and if i can swing it, i plan on getting the SPD y-pipe and an intake as well. according to SPD, i can expect around 30 HP from the y-pipe alone. it seems like a lofty expectation, but i would honestly be happy with half that so for 90 bucks i dont think i can go wrong.

it will be days or weeks before this happens, but i wanted to get any thoughts on my planned maintenance and mods before i go forward... and this can serve as a place for me to ask for advice and vent as needed.

    probably mostly vent though...

You could try changing your plugs first. Usually that's the culprit, if its not one of the plugs, at least you have new plugs ha ha. Then move on to isolating the bad coil.

from what i have read, the fact that it is inermittent and confined to a certain RPM range leads to the coil and that if it were a plug, then it would be more constant... who knows until i open her up though. i know id like to avoid dealing with the plugs for now though. (plus, whatever i DONT spend on the fix, will go toward the mods. he, he...)

i'd have to agree there. and you are right... if you get a min 15HP from that y-pipe, thats still a good deal. hell, anytime you can get 1HP=$5 thats a damn good deal to me. think about it... 500HP motor would run you $2500 and we would all jump on that. and if you get more than 15, you just got more bang for your buck :hunter:

thats kidna the way i see it. i also figure that if i can get a tune with the y-pipe and a possible intake taken into account, it should maximize those products as well. all that being said, i gotta get this miss thing fixed first though. its annoying having such a pretty truck not running right.

How many miles do you have? If it's over 75k with the original plugs, I would change them out anyways.

I took the truck over to Advanced Autoparts to have them pull the code... of course they told me they wouldnt get a code because the CEL wasnt on. I had to argue with them for what seemed like forever. Eventually they came out and pulled a code for a miss on the number five cylinder. So basically, as soon as my tax return clears, im going to order the parts i need AND the parts I want.

I know this is news that no one else is stoked about, but i am stoked that i finally get to do some mods.

does anyone know a cheap place to get aftermarket mufflers? im thinking of having a new muffler welded on when i get the Ypipe welded on so i can have a little bit of rumble.

Try eBay, you can usually find some a bit cheaper than other places. I got one of the knock off 40s on eBay for the wife's escape, it was cheaper than an OEM replacement. Got if for like 24 bucks. Looks just like a flowmaster ha ha, sounds pretty good too for a 3.0 v6. But I've found flowmasters in there cheaper than some other places.
