So I just finished doing a body lift on my truck and also put new power lock actuators in at the same time, just reconnected the battery for the first time and at first it wouldn't turn over at all, so I decided to check the battery and it was fine, so I went inside and tried again later and now the interior lights and hood lights are flashing like crazy whenever the door is open and a ticking noise is coming from the dash fuse box. I'm starting to think a wire broke when we lifted it and is causing a short, but I have no idea where to start. Anybody else had a problem like this? Or any helpful ideas? I've been checking wires half the night and still haven't found anything.
I guess it could be, but probably not. I used the bracket correctly and I cleaned everything with a wire brush before I put it back on.
Sounds like low battery voltage causing the flashing thru the GEM/BCM relays. My Ranger had a similar event when I returned from Orlando nearly three weeks ago, discharged battery. If you're sure about the chassis ground connection and cab ground connection, check the main power cable connection at the power distribution box (fuse/relay box) under the hood. When you say battery was fine, was that a voltage check with a meter 12.7 - 12.8 volts? How about the battery cable terminals / battery posts, are they clean metal?
Yeah I checked the voltage and its good and the battery is only about six months old I clean my terminals and wires regularly, the headlights and everything work fine but the starter won't even try, no clicking or anything. I'm starting to think its the wireing between the starter and battery that broke during the lifting process.
you just aren't having any luck with that body lift are you lol. like everyone said, check your wiring. double check all grounds at from, don't forget about the ground at the passenger front tire.
Yeah I went through the grounds and everything last night, I guess now my best bet is to disconnect the wires from the starter and battery and start going through it, or maybe just replace it all together.
Okay I figured out the problem, the wire to the starter had worn through and was touching the frame. And also the wiring harness to the transmission wasn't quite bolted all the way in. Now everything is good to go and the body lift looks great accept now I need bigger tires.
