Ok, the boyfriends truck is acting strang recently. 2004 5.4l triton 4x4 yada yada, well the other day it started making a loud ticking noise, sounded almost like a spark plug came out but not quite that loud. Well, it went away after driving for a couple min, so the next day I checked the oil and it was pretty low so we put a few quarts in along with some Lucas. Now every once in a while, when he comes to a stop it has a very rough idle, almost like its going to stall. Seems to only do it once the motor is up to temp. He can put it in neutral, rev it up and it stops. Seems like a sensor or maybe an on off vacuum leak to me, but he has had a problem with valves ticking, been going on since I met him though. Never seemed to pose a problem so we left it, plus $2,500 price tag on getting it fixed wasn't the most appealing option. Anyway, any suggestions? Okay, so now for the apologies for not being around. We moved to San Antonio and I got a new job, I'm officially a manager at Starbucks as of last Friday, thank God, I'm ready to be done with Whataburger lol the mustang is still in College Station though, that's a whole other issue... But ill get to that later It's good to be back home miss you guys
Ticking could either be cam phasers, vct solenoids, timing chain slap. Just one of the many problems is 04 owners have
True that, gotta be better than driving a mustang though lol I'm not so much worried about the ticking rather than the rough idle. It just makes me cringe you know?
Sounds like a cop. Don't the 04s have the infamous header leak too that sounds an awful lot like valve ticking? Sent from your Mom's house using Tapatalk
