Sorry... No vid. It isn't loud enough for a mic to pick it up. Anyway, '08 5.4 FX4 with 48k miles. I'm getting a whining sound that increases/decreases in pitch with RPM and usually starts in second gear around 25mph, and is loudest when accelerating/decelerating. It strongly resembles the sound a transfer case makes when engaged. I checked my trans fluid, it looks and smells right. It started this Saturday after a day of normal driving, no heavy loads, burnouts, or abuse. The most I ever tow is about 4500lbs. It's hard to tell exactly where it's coming from, but my educated guess would be the transmission. It shifts fine, and feels normal whilst driving, but I never heard it prior to this weekend. It does it when I manually shift or shift in auto. I'm hoping its just a normal sound these rigs make after a while Any ideas, please let me know! Regards, Chris
My pinion was lose when i had the gears swaped on my rear end. It was howling on acceleration and on deceleration
After driving it on some quiet roads where I can hear it better, it's sounding more and more like the diff. I think you're on to something FX2. Thanks for the input! I was looking around for gears, but can't seem to find any.... Normally I'm really good with this stuff. Even Yukon didn't have anything! Any pointers on locating gears and master install kits? Thanks!
You have a 4x4 so your front diff is a 8.8 and your rear is a 9.75. Yukon makes 4.11s and 4.56 for your difs. Give diffsonly.com a call
Okay cool! I did buy some 5.13's for my old Ranger build a few years back. Generally they're pretty reasonably priced.
