Driving down the interstate in my 97 Lariat 4WD w/4.6 engine, and all of a sudden the serpentine belt broke. I was doing about 85 in the far left lane and had no power steering assist or brake boost either, but managed to get over to the shoulder to get it stopped.

I was miles from nowhere so I called a tow truck and had it loaded up and took it home. I got a new belt and began putting it on. While pulling out the old pieces of belt I found an almost stripped pair of wires, dark green and grey, that the belt had obviously ripped through.

Looking at the wiring diagrams, looks like it's either the camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor. I have spent untold time trying to find either of them. I don't want to even start the truck for fear one of them will get out of spec. Anybody got any ideas on an easy way to find them? I'm getting desperate!

    hey man

cant you follow the wires to where they go? or are they snapped before the cam/crank sensor?

let me look up some diagrams and see if I can lend a hand.

No, they were cut off before they terminated. Thanks for that info, I'm going to have a look first thing in the morning. I'll let you know how it comes out. Not much room in there.
