I think this is the first time I've seen a motor shot from you. I want!

Weakest part of the 99-04 7.3s are their transmissions.

I thought they had the 5R100 gearbox. That gearbox is supposed to support 800lb-ft of torque or so, and around 450HP. I don't know of any 7.3 PowerStroke motors that produce those kinds of numbers but they sure as hell should last longer than that piece of crap 6.0 PowerStroke. :)

It was a 4r100 and they're junk... Most of them at least. They go anywhere from 80k to 120k. Mine made it to 124k. My dads is still going at 200k. 4r100 is the weakest point in the 7.3. You have a built tranny put in and you're bulletproof. I have upgraded clutches, torque converter, valve body and a nice big cooler now. It feels sexy ha ha.

Coming from a 7.3 lover, a quick 7.3 lover ha ha. The 6.0 is poorly misunderstood. I can probably match a deleted and chipped 6.0. but if you bulletproof and really mod a 6.0 it will be just as reliable as the 7.3 with more power. It's tough for a 7.3 to see 500hp, not as uncommon with a 6.0.

My mistake brother, I thought the 7.3 PowerStroke was matched to the 5R100. I know nothing about the 4R100, I know my F-150 has the 4R75W and my Ram 1500 has the 545RFE.

I know there are a lot of 6.0 PowerStroke owners who try to inform the rest of us of how those motors can be made to be very reliable but from what I gather it takes quite a bit of effort to replace the stock components before it can be upgraded to more power. I know of some brothers who've had their trucks on Diesel Power and are putting out power levels close to the 6.4 PowerStroke and still remain reliable but to get to that point cost a s**tload of money.

I myself haven't gone in the way of diesel yet, although my next move will be a diesel. I'm just waiting for Ford to build a stronger frame for their F-350 and a decent exhaust brake. That, plus lower the price a bit. Hell, with the employee pricing plan they have the new F-350 is still the same amount as my gross annual income.

Seems to me as if the 6.0s can be great engines if action is taken asap. EGR delete to prevent extra exhaust heat entering the engine will prevent engine from getting too got and head gaskets blowing out. If heads studs are used this also helps the heads stay on to prevent the possible head gasket blow out. Thats kind of what I've read about the 6.0s but I really know nothing about diesels lol

The EGR should be the first to go, then head studs/gaskets. The truck will run reliably with a mild tune and EGR delete, but once you start pushing some serious power and boost is when the head gasket problems come in. The head stud swap is the pain, most shops will pull the cab, but I've seen people online do it with the cab on. I believe overboost was an issue contributing to the overheating on chipped trucks.

It's relatively simple to hit a 500hp daily driver on 7.3 and 6.0s now with all the deletes, tuners and bolts ons. $5000-$10000 could get you a decent set up, depending on brands and whether you replace a trans or not. Seems like the trans in a 7.3 and the headstuds on a 6.0 are the 2 weakpoints and usually a must if youre going build. I've got $4200 into my trans alone, plus another 1500-2000 into other performance mods. I throw injectors, a gtp38r, fuel system, etc.. In and I'm comin up on the $10k mark.

So when you look at $5k to $10k to $15k to build a diesel to be a powerful dd, $2k to bulletproof a 6.0 isn't too bad of a fix ha ha. I think the 6.0 got a bad rep from how ford handled some of the warranty work, it just got hyped from idiots who can't maintain their trucks.

Holy Christ brother, doing any kind of work on the 6.0 PowerStroke with the cab still on is nuts. You gotta have hands as small as a leprechaun with arms as flexible as gumby to work on that beast.

I agree the 6.0 PowerStroke got a bad rep because of how Ford screwed up the repairs and tried to blame it on Navistar. But then again it really is Navistar who built it to be unreliable in the first place. I've seen guys pushing 600TQ+ out of those motors reliably, but they had to go through a whole lot to get there. But as with a diesel motor, once you make it bulletproof it will easily outlast any gas. When you think about it, realistically the 6.0 PowerStroke has it's issues but so does the 5.4 3V Triton. Hell, I won't even attempt to touch the cam phasers on my truck, I gotta pay someone to do it and it'll cost me around $2,000+. And that's just to bring it back to stock settings, that isn't supercharging it or anything special. There are some 6.0 PowerStrokes out there that have already had all the proper corrections made, if you can get one of those then you'll save yourself a tremendous amount of money and the hassle of repairs.

Back to the topic of the best mods, I received my Cree LEDs for the strip lighting on my aftermarket headlights only to find out that they don't fit. Aww f**k. Well, I can't return them now since they were special order and now I gotta go shopping again. :(
