That would be sick if you decided to mold the speakers into the doors. I've always thought it would be cool to do that.
looks great justin! i wanted a set of RE's for my truck, but then i would have to build a custom box to get em in there.
Ive thought about it. I have a spare set of 6x9s that I havnt decided where to put. since supercrews is only wired for 4 speakers I would probably get a 6 channel amp to power em all. Madness have you ampd any of your speakers?
The ones in my doors are hooked to my 4 channel amp. I noticed a difference with them (for the speakers and amp being cheap) it was nice. Was a pain getting the speaker wire ran through the door grommet. Since i didnt feel safe running OEM wiring to the amp.
The only things is where would you mold it? I would guess the bottom of the door, at least thats where I always see people put them. It just seems to me that they would get kicked a lot even with a screen.
I dont normally kick my door... I know at some stores like best buy I can get 6x9 speaker boxes, but I think I would mount them in my sub box. granted they would be useless when the backseat it up...but 98% of the time theyre down so I can watch the subs as they're pounding away. Other than that...because its a 01 theres not as much flat surfaces as the 04+ do, so I would need to think of something tricky. maybe mount em in my center console....ohhh and add an 8" sub to the back of the console...once I rewire all of my switches for a clean install (everything would be mounted and wires zip tied up and together) there should be more than enough room. with no flooring to the box it would act as a ported box...this would work right?
Probably not. Port length is determined on enclosure size for a sub. Doing a set of door panels should be pretty easy. I plan on cutting out the front pocket of the door, most of the backside aswell, using wood to get the rough shape and mount the speakers. Then most likely glass it. Wrap/paint etc. I dont see speaker boxes for components really needed, as most are designed to work with almost any airspace. And since I'm sure you wont be going pro audio, you should be fine.
Wow. Doesn't seem like i've had the subs in for almost a month. They have (finally) broken in good. They've gotten much louder, even on the shatty ~200 watts the amp is putting out. The surround on the one I dropped is still good (had a small tear in a weird non-moving spot of the surround). Pretty sure next summer will be a rebuild, with a third 10, and door panels. Buddy stopped over since he was in town from TN; Said it sounded very clean, and pounded good. Rolled the window up on him, and he was surprised it made the difference it did in sound. +1 for reading on port placement and everything online.
