Good evening All. Tomorrow I will be going to look at a 2000 f350 cc lb 4x4 with the 7.3 and 157k. This would be my first diesel and was hoping you folks here could give me a few pointers on what to look for and maybe some questions too ask. I have done knowledge of the 7.3 but not a whole lot. Thank you all for your replies in advance. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
General stuff, check out the body for rust or bubbling paint, body damage. Check the interior for damage and stuff, as far as the motor goes make sure there is no knocks or ticks, check for leaks around the oil pan, around the tranny and rear end. Bring a flash light and crawl under there an just look at everything, see how everything looks, ie not too much rust or grease an oil everywhere or patchy work in the past. Check the susp visually for torn boots an stuff, shocks aren't leaking. Check the dates on the batteries. Check tires for wear and condition. Also when you pop the hood see how clean the motor is, a person who takes care of their stuff an truck an maintains it will keep things pretty tidy Then take it for a drive, see how she drives, make sure the steering feels tight and brakes are good. Make sure it shifts tight an smooth an there is no hesitation or issues. Press all the buttons make sure they all work, manually go from first to second gear and then third an drive. Ask the guy questions about servicing an work done an what all has been done, ask questions about anything to get a feel to wether he is being straight with you and that you feel confident dealing with him. If you do decide you wanna get it, I'd do a full service ( depending when the last was done)
Yeah pretty much everything danny said, but don't forget to check the oil level (also make sure its not dark or dirty) if your buying like off of craigslist or a small town car lot.
welcome dude! listen to danny, he knows whats up. rust is a big thing especially if youre from the northeast. lol
Wow how pictures can be mis leading. Missing tailgate, damaged rear quarter panel probably from a blow out, bald ass bfg a/t's, ton of paint chips and last but certainly not least oil underneath all over the front of the engine and diff. I had to pass but that you all for the advice. Time to keep looking Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
Don't let it discourage you though. The first truck I went to look at after I sold my last one seemed like the perfect truck for me from the PICTURES. The paint looked great, interior looked great, ran great, 4x4 worked great all according to the description and pictures. After driving over 2.5 hours to see it and planning on buying it...... The paint was horrid, it had holes in the side of it, not to mention the interior was falling apart and it ran like it had a potato shoved in the exhaust pipe. Needless to say it sucked and I didn't get it. Kept looking and found a f150 that truly was beautiful and bought it. You'll find the right one. Just be patient and keep looking.
