I recently swapped from my JLT air intake back to a stock intake with gotts mod. I was running about 15* warmer than ambient at all times on the hwy with the JLT open filter which I didn't think was too bad. After putting the stock intake back, I was still around 15*-20* warmer than outside. This seemed too warm and looking around I noticed that the foam pieces around the air filter had disintegrated. I bought some 3/8 camper foam tape and replaced the bottom and side pieces. It was a tight fit, but I was optimistic. After driving the last few days my Intake temp is now only 8* above outside while on the hwy (20+ miles at 65mph) It will still get to 15* warmer if I'm stuck behind someone slow and not getting any airflow, but is an easy/simple upgrade. Yep, I done the same thing awhile back. I put it around the whole housing though and let me say this. Truck runs significantly better.
If you wrap your intake with gold flake that will help a lot. I know of a few race teams that use it because they have to use the OE engine and intake so they do what they can.
