I use a thin cable with a loop at each end as a tether, and I keep an eye on it

So I was thinking of cool **** to do with the gopro once I get it.. I was running the crane picking some trees up over a house and was like damn it would be cool as **** to put the gopro on the end of the boom then I could use my phone as a monitor and have better view of what I'm doing over houses where I can't see the ball.. Plus I could get some cool videos of the job site from the sky..

I'm going to have to make a mount that can freely rotate though.. I figure I can use some tire weights or maybe even fishing weights to tie on the camera to keep the lense pointed straight down.. The rotational part is gonna be the hardest

just FYI using the wifi with your phone will suck power in both camera and phone, you can get really long usb cables to run down the boom and plug into the camera, then plug it into a cig outlet along with your phone. Ive done this on road trips for long periods of recording.

Max USB cable length is approx 16 feet otherwise your going to see some serious signal degradation.

all it would be used for is charging the go pro as its recording...not sending video.

The wifi does have a 2-3 second delay to it.

Looks like mounting a used 12volt sealed battery
the boom end would be the cheapest route.

12v power point and a USB car charger.
Most USB car chargers are rated 1~2.1 amp.

Yeah I heard there was a 3 second lag.. But it don't have to be perfect I have people giving me hand signals when I can't see anyway.. I just thought it would be cool to have another view also..

And its not something we would use all day or rely on so the battery thing won't be a huge deal..

And I did find some swivel mounts so this is going to happen eventually just for the hell of it lol...

I just wish the damn thing would get here!
