I have searched several forums and internet sites and can't find a resolution to my issue. For about 6 months, my truck had been stalling when slowing and making a very sharp turn and would only do it about half the time at that. Lately, when I come to a stop, the RPMs will fluctuate. Dropping to 100-200 and then back up to 600. It will do this a few times and either recovers and stays at abt 600 or stalls. Sometimes if I throw it into neutral, it will recover easier. Also, the fluctuation/stall issue only happens after I've been driving for at least 20 mins or so. It also still stalls on the sharp turns, but almost every time now. I had the alternator and the battery checked and they are fine. I also replaced the fuel filter in case it was clogged and used a couple of fuel treatments as well, but no improvement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. In case it doesn't show on my profile for some reason, I have a 2007 f-150 SuperCrew with 4.6L engine. Thanks in advance for any and all tips. Sounds like an intake issue to me. Usually a sensor of some kind. IAC valve or MAF? I'm not well versed in the newer 4.6 but someone will chime in with more info. Has there been a check engine light at all? Even if it hasn't or it went away it could be storing a code. Do you have an aftermarket intake? I think some of those will mess with an 04+ f150, again not 100% sure. My sisters explorer is doing the same thing, it's intake related, IACV or intake gaskets, just haven't gotten to looking at it for her. Sent from My Porcelain Throne using Tapatalk
Thanks for the response! No aftermarket anything on the truck. Also, no check engine light but I will have it checked today to see if there is a code anyway. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
sounds almost like it could be a vacuum leak. truck runs great when driving normally but stalls when you stop. check your rubber elbows and hoses. I chased a similar issue down on my 5.4 had a buddy chase a vac leak on his 4.2 v6 for a few weeks as well. could also check your IAC, clean it, check the gasket or just replace it all together.
I'm trying to think out of the box here but if it's running fine then slowing down it starts to stall sounds to me like the torque converter isn't unlocking basically making it stall like a manual transmission when you slow down, and that's why going into neutral helps it recover
Revving in neutral helps it not stall for sure. I did run it up to AZ just now and had them check codes even though the check engine light isn't and it said something abt a battery pack. Had them check the battery and it is ok but needs a charge. I think I will try checking the IAC next and see if that helps. Thanks again for all the input Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
a bad battery wont cause the motor to stall out while its running, that cant be the issue. truck runs off the alternator once its started.
