Hello everyone I'm new here and need some major help I don't own a ford my mother does she has a 1999 ford explorer 4 door 2wd v6 and it need some help we do not have the money for a new 1 or for a mechanics
So ima do it myself first off the front end sounds like it's shot any1 that has 1 bows what I'm talking about and it sounds like it's only running on 3 cylinders she had the oil changed 6 years ago and it hasimt ran right since I hooked it up to my scanner and it says system lean bank 1 and 2 any help would be great or ? Feel free to ask I will answer thank u in advance

Start with oil first if it has been 6 years. Sounds like maf needs clean for the codes

 

oil needs to be changed ASAP, that's a long time for oil.

get some MAF cleaner and spray your MAF sensor like iowa said, check your rubber hoses and elbows at the PCV and plenum. that bank 1 and 2 lean code could be excess air getting into the system through a busted hose. might run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through the system as well as change the fuel filter.

Running rough could be water in fuel.
Lean condition could be clogged fuel injectors or faulty O2 sensors.
Water remover / Injector cleaner would be the cheapest attempt to repair.
When was the last time fuel filter was changed?


My mother-in-law must be on the same car care schedule.
3000 miles in 6 years for an oil change sounds about right for her.
Last two times it was changed we paid for it.
She says "I don't have 30 minutes to wait for an oil change" or
"I can't believe it costs $24.95 for an oil change".
Can barely get her to put gasoline in the Crown Vic.

I agree on the MAF cleaning as well as a whole host of other PM
preventative maintenance).
Sounds like Kevan's mom's 1999 Explorer needs a serious
regular maintenance schedule.

Thank u all very much I will try cleaning the maf and the oil has Ben changed a total of mabye 4 times in the past 6 years she don't have the money and I don't have the money to do it but she has decied she wants to keep it and do some work on it lol plugs ant Ben changed since I was 16 and I'm 22 now lol and I was the last 1 to do that lol

just make sure when cleaning the MAF to use the proper cleaner. CRC makes a MAF cleaner, red and silver can.

 

And the fual filter I don't remember ever doin it so if my dad didint than since she got it in 04 I think lol and it's a daily driver I think it had 150 thousand when we got it and now it's got 230 thousand
