If you're nice to it and don't put a locker in the front, you should be able to get away with it. But if you can find a D-60 for a good price, than I would just start with that and not worry about it.

What are your plans for the rear axle?

D44's come in jeeps...your trucks weight will be straining the D44 a lot...a 60 is what you would want....just sayin.

curious, why 38s? I have a couple buddies who run in a 37" class. not really a "class", everyone they wheel with has 37s lol. one guy says he will run 40s...but he will need a lot of work on the jeep to run em. 37s are big enough to stretch the vehicle to its capibalities and then some..

coils would have a lot better ride, stability, if you build it right this wont be an issue. what coils would you use? could almost use F250 coils... theyd be tall enough but might be super stiff........and our truck springs are super short...DUDE! you need to buy my lift and use its coils! done! hahah wont be for a while though

The rear axle would either be dana 60 or possibly sterling 10.25 (I've seen a few people use them in their builds, not sure what's so special about them will have to do some research). But I will most likely wait and just buy a dana 60 for the front as well, I was only curious about the dana 44 because it was a pretty good deal and saw it worth looking in to. But Jarret, I want 38s because I want to run michelin xmls lol they come in 325/85/16 which is basically a 38" tire, but I wouldn't mind running 37s as long as I could find a decent set. I I could afford km2s in that size I would!

But bro... Your lift is never coming off, I think I'll have my truck straight axled cummins swapped before you take that lift off :p

The sterling axles are cheap and easy to find. Just make sure that you get a 8-lug one from a 250, my 150 has a sterling 10.25 but its semi-float (not full) and has 7-lugs.

XMLs are heavvvvy also, I wouldn't want a d-44 under those. 60s are they way to go.

Look for a wrecked 250/350. Something that was rolled over or flipped, maybe caught on fire if you're going to rebuild all the seals and gaskets. That will get you the axles and transfer case.

I appreciate the info bro! I'm gonna just save up an get a set of 60s, might hit the junk yard soon to see if there are any in there. The one I go to only charges $150 or $180 for truck axles I believe so I need to head up there and see what I can find. But I knew the xmls would be heavy, but they are meaty and from what I've read they last forever!

Also ordered my HIDs today :D 6000k low beam only, brand is called Optix. Only paid $30 with a 2 year warranty so I figured its worth a try. Said they should be here on or before Tuesday.

what rear axle do you have now? the 9.75 I thought was a close relative to the D60? the 8.8 is a little dinky thing thats for sure.

my buddy ran 37" military tires, those were also extremly heavy and didnt balance worth a crap. If you do find a wrecked SD, get axles with the same bolt pattern and do full width too, thatd be super sick!

That's the plan! I would love to find matching 8 bolt dana 60s... Correct me if I'm Erin but aren't the dana 60s wider than both the 8.8 and the dana 44? But I have the 8.8...

Well... I'm sold... Lol dana 60 it is! But since I most likely will be running 38s eventually I'm thinking I may go with 4.88s. Anything will be better than the gears I've got now!

Thought I was gonna have to end this thread today... Almost flipped the truck :okay2: Driving down the highway at about 60, it's raining and I'm the only vehicle on my side of the road. Two cars pull on to the road from my right in front of me (no big deal), then a car from the left is crossing the 4 lanes to get to the other side of the road. All 3 cars completely stop and they are less than 200 feet away from me... I slam on the brakes and counter steer cause the back end broke loose. I am now sliding sideways at 60 mph towards these cars. Thanks to my BFGs I was able to stop literally within 2 feet of this car. I could have opened my passenger door and hit the car... I then proceeded to floor it, chase down the car that caused it and yelled at them... I would have flipped it if I hit them sideways going that fast. :sad72:
