I know but how often do you get to use the don't go full retard and if makes total contextual sense. Couldn't pass it up haha. Yea I originally had big plans for my motor but eventually I just kinda decided I'd rather just spend the money else where. It a truck on 35s it's never gonna be a racecar unless I drop a lot of money into it and $1200 in cams that you'll maybe get 30hp. That's not terribly noticable by the butt dyno. I'd hold off till force induction time, that'll be the most bang for the buck, and can work fine with those cobra cams. Get it built and installed and running then worry about a turbo or supercharger later. Just my take
Carquest sells a cloyes 4v timing kit with everything for 625.... yeah no thanks. Or I buy Ford parts for $400 lol 290 - ARP head studs 400 - Ford timing kit 90 - Ford high volume oil pump 250 - cobra cams?? maybe??? After these parts ill be moving onto things I can get at oreillys with my buddys discount such as spark plugs, pulleys, tensioners, water pump, injectors, cops, gasket set, etc etc. Im also going to be needing an intake tube so ill have to buy a cold air intake for it but thats later down the road. Oh yeah and headers... lol Cobra cams are 14* more duration and are claimed to gain up to 20hp. Also read on mmr's site that cam bolts are TTY and ill be needing new cam bolts if I decide to swap them out.
Typically any fastener in and engine that's torqued and has a flange head is tty. Actually technically ford says you can reuse the bolts 3-5 times. I didn't but it's also funy installing head bolts you have to pre stretch them
I never pre-stretched my head bolts when I did my head gaskets. Just torqued em down. Found some Cobra cams for $150 so its only a matter of time before I get those. Figure itll be the best route for me right now.
Machine shop called.. only part I forgot to give them was rear main seal lol Should have the engine back by the weekend and then ill be painting and waiting on parts. Had to wait for the rep from MMR to get back to me so I could get free shipping instead of paying $87 fuggg that.
you're taking too long. danny already has his built and had enough time to do two tablet dashes and paint a mustang
Parts are ordered. Oil pump showed up today and ill be heading down to the parts store today to grab some more stuff. My build is finally starting
Head gaskets, oil pan gasket, oil pump are here. Still no call from machine shop. Most likely will be monday before I can get it.
Update.. Got my 96-98 cobra intake cams in. Gonna run em up to the machine shop when I pick up my engine to make sure they dont need cleaned or anything. Still no call from machine shop so ill be calling them tomorrow afternoon. Also went by oreillys today to pick up some miscellaneous items.. 8 borg worner coil packs (lifetime warranty compared to motorcrafts limited warranty) 8 motorcraft plugs New water pump New thermostat New serpentine belt All of this rang up to about $520 but I used my buddy's discount and only paid $360 which I thought was a steal for the coil packs alone. I have basically everything I need to build the engine except the engine itself lol
