I've been waiting for some time now to get into a F-250 or F-350 and it looks like the time is now. I have found what appears to be a very hot deal at face value. I'm just wondering if there are any specific areas I should be focusing on? I'm looking at an 03 F-250 lariat crew cab with a V-10. The truck has 112k on it and the asking price is 7250.00. Everything I see for book values say private sale would be around 11-12k. The owner claims only thing it needs is a rear tire, he is the second owner and has owned it since September. He's selling due to going back on the road traveling more and at 9gpm he can't afford it. I've been told by a few ford guys I know to look at the manifolds, rust around fenders and bed mounts. Anything you guys know about?

not sure what state youre in but rust is one of the things I look for here in Michigan when buying a used vehicle. check the insides of the doors, I think that year 250 has some rubber weather strips on the inside of the door, at least my uncles did. pulled the strips away, all kinds of rust under there. check the floor boards and the bed as well.

that truck have the gas V10?? my uncle has had two. an 01 and he now has an 08. absolutely horrible on gas. ive drove it a time or two, some what of a dog when you get on the pedal.

If you like it roll it. Manifolds and rust are the big issues.

The V10s love gas, but they love towing also. Plan on around 13mpg empty and be happy if you get better than that.

I would recommend taking it to a shop and having them do a pre-buy inspection. Up here it takes about an hour and $100, but they go through it bumper to bumper and itemize all the problems.
