And get a newer one! Ba ha!

Since I've been bouncing the idea around about getting a second smaller truck like a lightning or a ranger, she suggested I just look in to getting one newer truck. She doesn't have to tell me twice! I'll hate seeing the 7.3 go, but I think I'm ready for something cushier and quieter ha ha.

I'm looking at 6.4s mainly, they seem to be in my price and mileage range, if I can get a 6.7 for a deal id jump on it in a heart beat. The plan is to get a private auto loan through one of our credit unions, swap over the stuff I'm keeping like my stereo, toolbox, lights and anything compatible I want to keep, sell my truck for cash, take a couple grand from it and bullet proof the new one with whatever deletes I need and a tuner to go with the deletes, then just put the rest towards the loan.

Trucks in my area go for a bit more than what most of you see so I'm looking in the 25k-30k range, I should end up with a loan balance of 10k-15k by the time I'm done. I can get a good 16k-18k here for my truck, around 14k if I strip the mods first.

With that being said, does anyone know of any red flags I need to look out for when it comes to the 6.4? Other than the basic "if it's been modded it's most likely been ridden hard" ha ha. I'll probably be pulling the trigger here in the next few months if I can get the numbers to workout right. I'm going to take my time with it and find a truck that's exactly what I want. we are going to ditch the liberty and get an expedition first ha ha, lots of big plans.

Found a couple of nice duallys in my area, I don't need a dually but it would benefit me once in awhile. Found some standard transmissions too ha ha that would be a plus.

This is along the lines of what I'd be looking for, ideally something with a small lift or at least a level. Unless it's a dually, they're sexy without it ha ha.

The burgundy one is a sweet deal for the miles that are on it. I'd like a crew cab though.

Definitely steer away from the DEF using 6.7
nothing like limp mode when ya really need it.

    Remember this pic?

Oh yeah, I do remember that! Ha ha. I will be steering away from anything with def. I believe there is a way to delete it but I requires a tuner. And it needs to be re installed for emissions testing. Emissions testing in wa is supposed to be gone by 2016 so it wouldn't to be a pain for too long. Most of the trucks within my price range are pre def though so that won't be an issue. I'm going to go test drive that burgundy dually tomorrow just for the hell of it. I might not even like them for all I know, I find that unlikely though ha ha.

Trucks already manufactured should be exempt from emmisions testing
Passenger vehicles here have emmisions but diesels are exempt which is nice

Same here. Usually. The wife's diesel liberty is emissions exempt but my 7.3 is not. Not sure what the guidelines are but I'm thinking it has to do with the year and the equipped emissions systems. Hers has some, mine doesn't ha ha.

My friend bought the 2012 F350 for $42K with
10K miles. He put $9K down payment
sold his 2002 for $10K and put another $9500
    on the bank note.
Think he said his payment is now $426 a month.

I dont miss those monthly truck payments one bit.
    Three words:
    million mile motor

Idk how much "city" driving you do but it's could be a ***** with a new truck and her in a larger SUV
My friends and I have a hard time going to downtown Pittsburgh becuase our trucks are to high to get into garages or to wide

6.4 can be down almost 600 hp stock with tuning but it really strains the fuel pump
6.7s seem to have turbo issues around 100k miles

Thanks for the info, man! Id like to say I would keep it close to stock but we all know that's a lie. Appearance wise I won't be doing much, but the motor will slowly evolve just like my 7.3 has. Since I'm in construction my truck is my commuter, I drive it to work and back and I often use it at work to haul. I only use it on the weekends if I'm doing projects at my house. I very rarely drive it to 'go out' so a second smaller truck is appealing, but it has fewer benefits than something newer. My truck is so big right now I'm used to the hassle of parking, I automatically go to the back of the lot anyway ha ha.

I know the 7.3 is a million mile motor but the truck itself isn't ha ha. It needs a pretty good overhaul under the truck, springs, tires, front end work etc. This is just an option the wife suggested since she thinks a quieter cushier truck would be nice. Something a little more "grown up" and less "hillbilly" ha ha, her words.

I'm not thrilled about taking on a payment but if these are her thoughts I should do it before I put a couple grand into my 7.3.

The expi is for her since she's getting the itch for another kid, the liberty is just too small for that. I suggested getting an expi instead of the Libby but womens never listen ha ha. With a a third kid in the mix it would just be nice to have something I don't HAVE to wrench on for a few years until the miles start adding up again.
