F250 or F350 7.3, 6.0, or 6.4 Diesel?

Hey guys new here looking to be buying a badass diesel this year. I'm going to try and put as much detail as possible because I would like answers all around.

I'm going to be buying a toy hauler 5th wheel, to use for work etc...shortest I've seen thus far is 36ft. So F250 or F350? 2nd what is the best motor out of the 7.3, 6.0, 6.4? I know the 6.0 is the lemon motor but I've heard of people not having any issues without bulletproofing it.

So please list pros and con's to everything. If you need more details ask away.

 

7.3 motors are great, but most will have a lot of miles by now, and they're prices are pretty high for being so old.

6.0 is a good motor, you can find good deals because people are scared of them. But if you do the head studs and o-ring it, you'll be fine.

6.4 is a smokin hot motor. But has DPF and extra emissions crap (which can be deleted) Newest motor, will be most expensive.

My father in law has the 6.0 has had a handful of issues but he hasn't done the head studs and o-ring. I love his 6.0 it's an awesome truck.

6.4 hadn't heard much about but wanted to throw it into consideration as well.

 

7.3 are crazy awesome, but that's why they hold their value so well, so you're gonna pay for it comparing cell for the year.

Bulletproofed and tuned 6.0s are reliable and make awesome power. I actually read somewhere the company ford sourced to make the rad caps screwed them up and they weren't holding the pressure right making the coolant boiling temp lower and the coolant would boil cause head issues and then the head bolts would stretch because of that. Not sure how credible it is but a company did a test of a bunch of random caps on 6.0s and they didn't hold the right pressure

Don't know much about 6.4s

 

Yeah the only real issue my father in law really has had was injectors going out. I know he had to change a few things on it but nothing compared to what I've heard others say.

 

I would choose a 7.3 for sure, but the trucks they're in might be getting beat. The last 7.3s were produced in 2003, so you're looking at a 10+ year old truck. That's compared to the 6.4 which went from 2008-2011.

I personally don't like the 08+ bodystyle that much, so I'd find a 2007 6.0 and make sure the engine was bulletproofed then run it forever.

 

Yeah I agree. That's what was the hard pill to deal with being older and paying so much.

Minus the issues known to the 6.0 I do feel like those motors are definitely an underestimated motor. There badass.

 

Def a 7.3, best of all the others.

Only had water pump under warranty,
engine starter/alternator getting weak
over time PM'ed them and a CPS go out
in the nearly 160K miles.

 

Wow that is definitely impressive. That's what I've heard, to be honest I'm really between the 7.3, and 6.0

 

On the f250/f350 when they had the 7.3 were they mainly lwb trucks? Cause I've found 2 I like but both lwb.
