I have an 01 f150 with 5.4 that has 293,000 miles on it. I have been offered an 08 5.4 with 40,000 miles on it for free out of a wrecked f250. I have pretty much determined that there are a lot of changes made from those years---- 3V heads, cam phasers, etc. My question is, Are the short blocks the same? Can I recondition my 01 heads and install on the 08 short block utilizing my 01 cams, timing components, and intake setup? I know of several changes made, but if the blocks are the same, I would think I could swap heads, intakes, and timing components to create and engine with far fewer miles on it. Are there any problems I could face in doing this?
Yes ecm and pcm and wiring. Pretty much everything that runs the truck. You'll also need a custom time afterwards since I'm assuming you want to keep the 4r70w in your 2001. The 11th gen PCM is not set up for that transmission. Honestly, you'll need a lot to make the 3v work in a 10th gen. It would be a lot of headache I think. Do some more research to see if the blocks are the same and I would just keep the 2v heads.. Good luck.
