I don't use their polishes though, I've heard they aren't very good. I have been using their Hex-logic pads though. I'll try to get on from a computer later tonight and write up a longer post, but ive mainly been using Meguiars 105 and 205.

Yeah, man. Shoot me a pm or post a quick write up of what you use. I really want to get this thing buffed out nice. I'd appreciate it a ton.

Thanks , man! Just some window tint and different wheels down the road. Tires have like 90% tread so I'm just going wear em out first. It's done up pretty nice as it is.

Yeah, i was def a little sad to see it go. I had a tone of hours into getting that thing back into shape.

I took All the ladies of the house out today to my 5 year olds gymnastics class with the top down. We have a bit of a heat wave here in WA, it's going to be 80 tomorrow. It was good times all around. I think I'm going to have more fun with the mustang than the jeep for sure.

Yea I would have a very hard time even thinking about getting rid of my mustang. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the money I get from when I sell my jeep. Thinking a paxton supercharger.

Disclaimer: I am by no means and expert and this is just a quick and shitty run down of the basics. I'm not particularly good at explaining things.

EDIT: If you have any specific questions please ask. I might be able to answer them in a way that makes more sense than this wall of text I quickly threw together.

Is your machine a dual action or a rotary? I use a rotary which can cut much faster and harder, but runs a higher risk of damage. It's also VERY easy to leave 'holograms' in the clear. A dual action is much more user friendly and I wish I had one for the polishing stage. I wouldn't give up my rotary for the compounding though, because its so much more powerful.

I primarily use Meguiars M105 and M205. 105 is a cut compound, 205 is a finishing polish. These two products are great because they are pretty user friendly for a beginner, but they are professional grade products and some of the best available. There are other compounds out there, Menzerna being one of the other favorites. 105 is a nice compound because of how nicely it can finish down, but it can get irritating how quickly it dries out. Very short work times. If your paint only has very mild swirls or defects you might be able to get away with only polish, no compound. But for anything else you'll have to compound.

The two main pads you would want when getting started are going to be orange and white. Orange for 105, white for the 205. If the defects are really bad, you can bump up to a yellow foam pad, or even a wool pad for very heavy cut. Of course the more aggressive you go, the higher the risk of damaging your paint. I have a full range of pads on hand varying from 3-6.5", but for getting started orange and white are going to be your go-to pads.

The basic pattern for buffing is a crosshatch. You do about a 2'x2' section, side to side over the section, then up and down, overlapping each pass up to 50%. Repeat 2-4 times. Make sure your paint isn't getting too hot during the process. If your paint isn't very bad, try just polishing w/ 205 and a white pad first. If you don't get the results you want, use the 105 w/ orange pad. Move the machine slowly, NOT fast. The weight of the machine is generally all the pressure you need, but you can push down some if needed, especially if you're using a dual action (DA). If you have a DA, put a mark on your backing plate so you know your pad is spinning. If it stops spinning, you're applying too much pressure.

I hope I didn't butcher that explanation too badly and I know I'm leaving a lot out but hopefully that helps a little.

The reddit.com/r/autodetailing community is full of both pros and hobbyists and is a great resource. Their wiki is a great read with product reviews, buffing tips and such, recommended items, etc etc.-----https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoDetailing/wiki/index

http://www.autogeekonline.net/ has more info than you could ever need as well. I've spent countless hours researching various techniques and products.

I would recommend reading the compounding and polishing portions of this post, very helpful-

Awesome man! Thanks. I've done almost everything you said. Except I got meguiars m1 mirror glaze medium cut, and meguiars m26 mirror glaze hi tech yellow wax. But the process you listed I did almost exactly.

I have a little 6" craftsman dual action buffer. It's nothing fancy but it does its job, I've always just used some turtle wax or carnuba wax on my stuff.

I hit the worst spot on the car which was the top of the fenders, just some surface scuffs, looks like someone didn't cover it when they were working on it. Actually those were the only bad spots on the car. I got most of them out already after a quick test run. I'm probably going to hit it a couple more times when I have more time. I clay barred first, hit it with the m1 then the polish twice. It worked out pretty well.
