Yeah, there is a Distributor stator in there that senses the crank position. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think I'm dealing with the sensor at the crank itself, hopefully. When I clear the codes and turn the truck on, the crank sensor code doesn't come on until I start driving the truck. I can let it sit and run and the only code I get is for the o2 sensor. The second I unplug the sensor the code pops up right away. is it possible that both sensors trip the same code?? I would imagine if the sensor in the distributor was bad, I would have major driveability issues. Only issues I have is horrid gas mileage and rough idle.
Yeah, if the stator in the distributor goes bad it won't run at all. It can stall out randomly, not start, then start randomly when it decides it's cool enough while the sensor is failing, but once it's done it won't run. The "misfire sensor" or crank position sensor as they call it, doesn't cause any issues other than the code if the sensor goes bad. It's strictly there to pick up a misfire. What sort of rough idle? Ran another test or two. What I'm coming up with is a bad PCM. I got no resistance readings at the PCM, everything says OL, says that if I have a reading it should be above 500ohms. While looking through the wiring diagrams, I noticed that the heated o2 sensor circuits and the crank sensor all.use the signal return wire, none of the o2 sensors function properly. I'm also getting a DPFE code every now and then, again, it uses that same signal return wire.
Just found this. http://www.obd-codes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6887 Guy with similar problem. I guess my shaking problem could be do to an evap leak. I get a p0171 every now and then, can't seem to find a leak though. Still doesn't explain why I'm not getting the readings I'm supposed to at the PCM connector. Could it be that I'm not using a breakout box like it says to? Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
Like said before, the crank sensor is used a misfire detection sensor, could have a misfire Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk
Yeah, i guess it's possible that the sensor is actually reading a misfire. And that's where you're getting your rough idle. That would have me running through the ignition system with a fine tooth comb, but it looks like you already did that. Did you ever swap out that spare pcm? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No, the PCM I have is for a 4.9 so it won't work. The more I think about the problem I'm beginning to think that I have a misfire that I can't seem to find. At the same time, I'm stumped on the whole o2 sensor issue and my testing of the pcm connector readings.
Yeah, it's like you have two separate contradicting issues ha ha. I'd start with the pcm if you can get one cheap enough, then maybe check through the ignition system again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
