Ever since I finished my 351 swap I've had a problem with belt squeal. I have a new belt, new tensioner pulley, new water pump, new smog pump eliminator pulley, new idler pulley, new alternator, and new power steering pump. Everything lines up. When I fire the engine up the squeal is loud and the voltmeter reads low. At the battery it reads 10.5 volts. But sometimes the squeal will go away, and when it does, the voltmeter reads 12+ and at the battery it will jump to 14.6 volts. I've replaced the alternator 3 times, the first two were 130 amp units and this last one is a 95 amp unit. As a last ditch resort I'm going to change the voltage regulator to a soft start unit because I don't know what else to try.....
Yes. I have new pulleys, both tensioner and idler, new belt, new alternator, water pump, new pwr steering pump, smog pump delete pulley. The kicker is this, the alternator does not show a charge. When the squeal does go away then it shows a charge or if I disconnect the alternator plug then the squeal goes away. Also if I connect my big battery charger to the battery and turn the amp selector from maintenance/trickle up two clicks to 40amps, the squeal goes away and then I can disconnect the battery and I can drive off and not get a screech until I shut off the engine and try to restart... That's why I'm going to replace the voltage regulator with a soft start unit....https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/...-but-now-i-have-belt-squeal.html#post17917666
