I'm having a brake issue. When I put the truck in reverse the brakes like to catch and release on their own and the brake pedal is super touchy. When I put it in drive I have absolutely no brakes. When I press the pedal it goes straight to the floor. Any ideas on what could be causing this.
Do you have any ABS warning lights? No brakes would have me checking fluid level in the master cylinder.
Even with a ripped or torn diaphragm in the brake booster it still should allow for emergency braking even with the engine off.
If you have fluid and the brake booster isn't the problem. No warning light on the dash from "brake light". Could be the master cylinder has lost ability to make pressure. Have you tried to bleed the braking system starting at the right rear wheel and then left rear, right front and then left front ? Do not let the master cylinder run out of fluid during the gravity bleed process. You can have someone push the pedal for a faster process but do not let them release the pedal until you have tightened the bleeder screw each time.
