so what a crappy day. first it was minus 42 last night, go out to start the truck this morning no go. screw around with thaat till about three, (frozen gas line) then im leaving my buddies place around 430, i jump in the truck turn the key, bang and smoke out from under the hood, but the truck started and stayed running. so i drove it home( only a couple of doors down the street) scanned it and got code P1151. from what i can tell and have read it might be a vaccuum leak somewhere. now it idles rough and sputters and coughs, until i get the rpms up to about 1500 it smooths out and appears nothing is wrong. it is a 1997 4.6 litre. in drive its smooth a and seems like nothing is wrong. any ideas????
-42 will make me smoke and throw codes to Anyway check and listen around your throttle body and all over for a cracked or busted vac line. They will cause this condition for sure....
thanx for the quick response, i will go out and try this in the morning it is only supposed to be -28 with no wind
First off check the connection on the drivers side upper O2 sensor, check for corrision, Check all the obvious vacuum hoses especially the pcv hose, passenger side to the rear of the intake, if ya find nothing, clean your maf, replace your fuel filter, get a can of Carb cleaner and spray around your intake and listen for changes in idle... run a bottle of injector cleaner through er as well, A lean code or lack of sensor switch code doesn't always mean vacuum leak, it could also be a lack of fuel delivery to that cylinder bank
im leaning towards a busted vaccuum line to just cause of the loud pop/bang noise. thanx for all the responses and will let you guys know what i find tomarrow.
It is an alcohol based additive to keep any water in the fuel from freezing in cold temps .. like a gas anti freeze
ive never heard of that but im in florida no need for it, think you would look into it livin in ontario lol. or anywhre where its colder than shit.
