hey guys im thinking of getting a 05 f150 it has a 5.4 3v and its 4 wheel drive its also stone in color but idk what it looks like any one have a pic of that color? anyway i want the 05 but thing is it has 212K miles but if the motor and every thing works fine etc. i might grab it for $7524 but i wanna know the pros and cons of the 05 any help would be nice i really wanna know how the high mileage 5.4 3v runs they say its a 4 door but the dealer hasnt posted a pic yet im hoping its a screw
Yea man thats alot of miles. Although I will say these trucks are reliable so if it looks good and seems too run good I wouldn't be afraid too buy it although that price is a little on the high side. I bet the dealer didn't pay $3,500 for that truck. Just for a reference my truck is an 04 crew cab 2wd with the 5.4 v8. It's only only got the XLT package but my truck is in immaculate condition for having 115k miles on the odometer and it only books for around $8,500. My truck has been great. All I have ever replaced are the axle seals, battery and window regulator.
thats alot for those miles. the 05's, (not just this year a few others aswell) have issues with the cam phasers and related components. not all of them have the problem escalate, but some do. Our 05 went in for it once, was nothing major. So just something else to consider for that many miles.
I'd buy that truck right away for that price!! Thats dirt cheap.....cam phasers can be a problem but not always. If it has been takin care of 212k is nothing..... To me a truck that has that many miles means its a good truck....one with low miles thats sat around is the one that will give you problems when you start running it hard.....
I would have to agree with Abe on this(damm i cant believe i just agreed with him, lol)However tho, make sure they changed the plugs out for new ones.If they did not,it could turn into a big problem.Make sure you get all pm records.Check em over. Also ask for a car fax report
If the truck is in good condition then yea its a good price. If its rough looking, then not a good deal obviously. Wests old truck was a clean looking truck, I didnt know it had over 200k miles, it was taken care of. You can tell if a truck with that many miles was taken care of. My truck had 128k when I bought it, and it was by far the cleanest looking one I looked at when I was looking to buy, and I looked at a couple of 50-70k mile trucks.
It just seems that everything Ive seen with those miles needed constant repairs. While it might run ok the rest of it is probably worn out. My uncle had a '93 F150 with 242k and it ran great but everything besides the drivetrain was falling apart so he traded it in on a new '04 Silverado that he just got rid of with 170k. My cousin had a '97 F150 with 203k that he sold when he bought his '04 Supercrew a few years ago. It needed quite a bit of work in the 103k he owned it. He abused the hell out that truck and it never died though. Another thing for me is that Id have to finance a purchase at that price for a few years. Since I drive 16-20k per year that truck would probably have 300k on it when it was paid off. How many trucks make it to 300k? Sure a few might but most dont.
