running a 3'' body torsion crank and 35s right now, have a throttle body cold air intake and superchip with the 4.6l and 3.55 gears and happy with the 13mpg i am currently, puttin my 5'' RCX on top of my lift and going to run 37s. curious what those of you running similar setups are gettin gas mileage wise and how the power is. pretty flat here in florida so wont be to harsh on the tranny most concerned about gas mileage id like to get atleast 10mpg...
I have 7.5" of total lift with 35's (4.6L with 4.56 gears and CAI)... I know it's a bit different setup then you were looking for, but my specs haven't changed much from stock. I think the regearing is the biggest factor played to keep my mpg's about the same. I get 12-14street/16 highway. The power is actually quite a bit better as well. I would def. look into regearing it if you're planning on rollin' with 37's.
regearing doesnt "unleash power" per say. what you feel is the torque you lost when you started to upgrade your rims and tires and turn your drivetrain into a mechanical disadvantage over the tire/wheel combo. since the teeth on the ring change the most (more removed then the pinion) it takes less power to get one revolution, therefore you feel "more power". that make sense?
LOL, it makes sense. I guess I should have specified more of just the 'feeling' part. It has a lot more 'getup' per say... not more 'power'.
please get gears, it will have wayyyyyyy more torque... 4.88s hands down with 37s, mpgs will not be to different depending on the foot, the main thing with tires that big and stock gears is the load on your tranny, you do not want tall gears with tires that big, you need lower gear to get the wheels turnin quicker and faster, but i want to see it with 37s!! i have seen the difference in gears with 37s, my friend put 37s on his silverado, and with 4.88s and 37s, its faster than stock gears with stock tires, no bullshit
Here's a simple equation to get your drive train back in line to factory specs. (New tire size DIVIDED BY Factory tire size) TIMES Original R&P = New R&P Ex: (35/30)*3.73= 4.31 By using this equation, you will get the torque that you lost, plus regain your factory MPG's, give or take 1. And Raider... I knew you knew what you meant... i just didnt want anyone not knowing coming in and reading and start thinking they can get "power" ya know? word.
