I was reading threw this and found it to be a good testimonial from the actuall owners of the much hated 6.0.

This statement rings so much truth.

    "They are ALL GOOD...just mis-understood.
Just like dogs..No bad dogs, just bad owners!!

I believe some mods are good...oil bypass filter, coolant filter, bigger exhaust, gages, get rid of Ford Gold. These actually in my book and probably a few others are not actually mods; but things to help longevity and reliability.

Mine is an 04, bought at 50000 miles, currently 76000. I tow a camper about 1/4 of my miles. It's been good."

From what I've researced about them it seems to be retarded kids that over tune them and don't take care of them is where the real problem is.

I will agree that the 7.3 is a better diesel but I think hear say has a lot to do with the negative feedback. And most of that comes from people who haven't even owned one.

It seems in stock form they are good. It's when you over mod them (without upgrading head bolts, egr delete, etc. Is when they don't react the same. I am just trying to get to the bottom of this saga and get the true low down. :hmm:

hahaha i dont blame you...but i agree..you cant add crazy programmers and junk and jus leave it on extreme or whatever and not expect something to fail...theyre meant to run what they are stock but if u upgrade the egr and hardware and all that then your good to go

I'll have to somewhat disagree here.

The 6.0's had a lot of problems when they first came out. It really didn't have anything to do with being overmodded, either. The enormous warranty cost for this engine and Navistar's refusal to own up to their portion of it is why the two companies are no longer partnering and also brought the lawsuits against one another.

Like most things (including the initial 3v 5.4's), by now.. the bad ones have either been fixed or replaced so what is left out there on the road are probably decent engines, until someone does overmod them.

I said that I wouldn't touch one of them with a ten foot pole well before it ever went into production. It has so much garbage bolted to it that you can't even see the actual engine, even when not in a truck.

I agree that there was a initial problem in 03 and some 04 models with the head bolts etc. But that don't mean EVERY 6.0 made is junk. I think with the right up keep they are good trucks. Lord knows I see a TON of them rolling down the road everyday. I think 05 and up are very reliable. If one has been takin care of I won't hestitate to trade for it. As the website link I posted there are a bunch of very satisfied owners.
