After replacing plugs and coil packs noticed noise coming from front of motor timing chain area pretty sure . New to me truck with 171,000 on clock. Do you guys think it's worth pulling down and replacing timing chain and guides with that my miles or a motor rebuild? Motor seems strong and runs good after plugs and coils.
For peace of mind, to bad you didn't do a compression test while the plugs were out, and a cylinder leak down test. Wouldn't hurt to replace the timing set and guides. Are you getting any blow-by with the oil fill cap off?
Sure it wouldn't hurt to replace the chains and guides, but more importantly replace the tensioners because that's what gives out and allows slack in the chains.
Have not noticed any blow by. Do the tensioners come with kits that have timing chains and guides? Found out that tensioners come with kit I'm going to order . I have another question someone had made problem could be cam followers can't seem to find that part listed anywhere?
Thomas just went through his 5.4 rebuild recently. He or another member more familiar with that engine and its parts can answer that question when they read your latest post. Galaxy S4 Cetane Powered Android
