2001 Mercury Mountaineer - New Owner Questions

    I just bought an 01 Mountaineer, AWD, 5.0. It came with a key. Just 1. And no key fob. How can I tell if it has keyless entry, and if it does, how do I obtain a replacement and program it to my vehicle?

    Also, does this vehicle have a chip (transponder) key?

    Yes, those OEM Style Mercury/Ford key Fobs can be found online.
    Instructions:

    INSERT key into Ignition and TURN from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm Programming Mode. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote fob. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.

    Has Transponder Type Key.
