my 4x4 hasnt worked in a while, havent got around to fixing it since i do mainly city driving. but with summer here, i want to take my truck to the beach and throw sand in people's faces...lol. anyways.

i was told before to check the actuator but how do i do this? where is it located. a pic would help.

and once i do this, how do i know if the 4x4 works on city streets?

    any help is appreciated. thanks.

its on the side of the front differntial , its under a black plastic cover L shaped ...... the acuator is round and has a vaccum line runnin to it ....... u can get under there with a pair of channel locks and play with the rod that goes in and out , its like a little plunger ...... try that and see if it fixes it....... get in yer yard or gravel and brake torque it , if it spins its not locked in

Another way to check is to jack the front end up so both front tires are in the air. Then start the truck and engage 4 wheel drive. Then spin one tire, the opposite tire should spin the other direction. If its not working, the other tire will just sit there

check all your vacuum lines also. you can get a pressure gauge and test all this cheaply.

Pretty much what everyone has already said, my answer was vacuum lines. I know a couple of folks that had to replace a few on trucks that are in the 97-03 year models.
