Saw a vid on how to "drain" the oil from your HPOP on a 7.3 PSD during an oil change. Change the oil as normal with 15qts oil and and FL-1995 filter. Then the oil in the HPOP is suctioned out thru the hex cap opening on the top. Refill and run five minutes, then repeat three times or until the oil starts coming out clean. I made my suction pump as suggested in vid 4 of 4 from a gear lube pump for installing gear lube into a boat foot and an extension of Viton tubing on the suction side that I had on the shelf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1oHAIXLTgE&feature=related
So I have been using a quart lube pump to drain my HPOP at every oil change. Today I put two bottles of REV-X in after the second cycle of HPOP flush and fill. I can tell a great difference in the idle of the 7.3 now. Much smoother and quiet, not nearly as much unbalanced feeling during idle. Plug in top of the HPOP. Lost my Viton extension tubing, I'm using 1/4" OD ice maker tubing to make an extension tube to reach the bottom of the HPOP oil reservoir. Made a funnel out of a turkey baster to fill the HPOP back up. Replace the fill plug and run the motor 5 minutes, then drain and fill cycle twice more. Oil doesn't get dirty until 7K miles now.
