i thought i'd post this thread about the facts, and myths on the 351W HO that were built from 84-87..

I started reading a thread on another site.. and it had SO MUCH BAD INFO!!!!!

and the bad part is it's extremely simple... not a wild difference..

    first... ratings...

    84-87 HO.
    hp 210@4000 rpm
tq 305 ft lb. @2800 rpm

    1983–85 2 bbl stock
hp 150 DONT HAVE RPMS for some reason...
    tq 280 ft lbs.

the Block and rotating assembly is the same for the HO as the regular windsor..

the Camshaft is one major difference.. the HO cam is based off a marine 351 grind.. it's fairly aggressive..

cam specs lift 444int./452exh. adv. dur 206int./221exh. on a 115 lobe separation

the Carb was a 600 Cfm 4 bbl with vacuum secondaries.. a holley if im not mistaken..

the Heads are also same between the 2.. 84 are D8 heads.. very very late 84 and after are E5's.. very smogged heads. huge combustion chambers..

so like i said above. the difference are minute but make a large difference.. if the HO had even E7's from the factory it woulda been around 230hp and 325 ft lbs.. the heads killed them..

it was like breathing in freely and breathing out through a straw..
