Just talked to my uncle , he has a 97 f150 with a 4.2. Today it started missing going down the road so he clutched it and it went dead and started smoking. He poped the hood and oil is blowed everywhere he said it seems like it came out the top and the oil smells real gassey and its thin.

Whats wrong? Motor blow up or what?

it sounds to me like it could possibly be a valve seal in which case its easier to replace the motor than to rebuild it or it could be something much worse

4.2s had lower intake gasket problems. Led to coolant getting into the block. Not sure if that's the issue but wouldn't hurt to check

The early 4.2's have a problem with vapor locking. It's a pretty common problem with those 97 to I think 99 4.2's. He needs to find a newer 4.2 or transplant a 4.6 or 5.4.
