I've got this new truck and keep hearing that the heater is tits, but the AC sucks. My question is, if I was to totally draw the system down, boil it all out, dry it out, and recycle what refrigerant I pull, could I reservice it with a few pounds of R134A + POE oil without hurting the filter dryer? I have my Universal Refrigerant card and am licensed to do this kind of work, but most of my experience is in a tandem 11#system that is designed to run high temps and Polyoester Oil (POE).

My understanding is that the dryer (desiccant) should
be replaced on every opening of the system due to
    drawing in ambient air humidity.

Reading on some automotive air conditioning forums in the
past, one service tech replaced his orifice tube with one from
a E150 van, after that he could freeze the paws off a polar bear.

I was planning on using a closed loop. If I pull a vacuum, ambient air (diminimus of course) will never make it in. I could be wrong.

Won't cost anything but your time and
the R134A and oil you have to buy to top off
to find out if it worked.
