I highly recommend the DIY recharge kits. Just make sure you buy a kit that has the gauge on it so you can see how much psi you are putting in. read the label. Just getting into "green" isnt always whats needed. Down here in the south, its all about your ambient temp, and since its always 95^+ here, i have to fill until it just hits the yellow, which is about 45psi. I have done this plenty of times as I have a leak somewhere but don't want to pay to get it removed properly so i can put a leak sealer in. just read the instructions, and its easy cheesy japanesy
if for some reason you find out its a bigger issue, i can show you a way to "jump" the compressor for use. I currently have a Lariat cluster in my truck, and I'm too cheap to pay Ford $110 to flash the truck so my new cluster recognizes my system. yes, its not the right way, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get the AC blowin, especially when funds are tight. Good Luck!
haha i hear ya...well its pretty much impossible to do what super said...the canister is jamed so far up in there i cant get the pressure sensor plug off...i checked fuses and relays and they look good....i can see alot of residue near the low end fill line...looks like its been leaking out of there for awhile...gonna go get a kit with a gauge and see what she does...
well bad news guys...went to napa and bought a pressure gauge...gauge was barley reading...add freon right? so i get a can and go about the process...starts going in, compressor starts kicking on, awesome its working! gauge will build up then when compresser kicks on will go down....guy at napa said i was going to need more than one can bc it was so low. i figured id do one just to see....do a whole can...gauge is reading still low....turn off truck to think about gettin another can (ac is blowin a little colder) and wa freaking law....compressor starts steaming and hissing....sounds like there is a major leak somewhere....will only steam and hiss when truck is off....what the hell is up!?
cant really tell...im really hoping its just a major leak somewhere....its all leaked back out now and compressor wont try and kick on anymore...gonna have to look at it later had to get ready for work...i will have to check into the o rings when i get a chance...
dude thats exactly what happens to mine on a rare occasions. its almost like you have a NOS blow-off on the passenger wheel well, right? its done that to me 3 times and I finally figured out why, but not where. its from the truck trying to run the compressor at a low/idle rpm after start-up. all three times this was the case but the lightbulb didnt click on for me until the 3rd. I haven't figured out exactly where its blowing off, but here is my idea: when you are low on freon, your lines will ice up really bad, internally and externally. the more it is allowed to ice, the constrictor the pathway becomes. there comes a breaking point where the back pressure isnt strong enough to get through, and you get the blow-off effect. I believe it is coming from the rubber hose that connects the low-side to high-side. its right infront of your windshield fluid. its the only thing i can think of that would be able to blow off pressure. all my metal lines are intact. nothing is loose, so i know the o-rings are still in place.
