what i meant is most wheel company's and tire company's stopped making them what makes them not dot approved? so you don't recommend them for daily driving?
I don't recommend the tires only because they're heavy... They're a lot of rotating mass to stop so they are hell on your braking system as well as a lot to get em movin... For a 37" tire that's a lot of weight! Some companys make tires for 16.5" rims and they're not DOT approved for highway use... There is a lot of speculation that these wheels are outlawd!! Lol Some companys make DOT approved 16.5" tires, Like mine for example are stamped DOT right on em... Are they legal? Yes so why wouldn't the wheel be?
alright sounds good so they prolly wouldn't be great tires for me or yamahasled because we have the 4.6... can you get a ticket for not having dot approved tires?
It would be veerrrrry hard to get a ticket... I don't think a cop is gonna lick his thumb and wipe your tire to get the DOT code off of it and even if he does he ain't gonna know the laws unless he's DOT but then what is a DOT officer pullin a 1/2 ton pickup over for?? Yeah I ran em for a while, and I noticed the difference in weight when I put the 39s on hahaha The 4.6 and the axles geared stock? I'd say no way man! But with the right gearing you can turn anything!! Hell I've seen the 4.6 rollin 52" tires with 5.13 gears ***Email sent to the department of transportaion to get the low down on 16.5" wheels and tires
yeah my tires arnt dot approved... i wonder if a state trooper would notice tho i don't do a lot of highway driving but have been pulled over by a state trooper in town with a lifted straight piped 4.0 ranger for loud exhaust oh yea my truck is getting either 4:10s or 4:56s and a 9in in the rear come spring
You can't just come in here and say that with no links or documentation from the DOT stating that 16.5" wheels aren't DOT approved and then leave! where's the proof? where'd you hear it? a DOT officer? This is a forum that offers information to help people. So if you're gonna throw out info that is false, that is going against what we're trying to accomplish here. There was 3 people askin about these wheels and tires and now they are all wondering if they're legal for use or not... Yes some companys make tires that are 16.5" and NOT approved by the DOT for on road or highway use. I could throw skid steer or loader tires on my truck right now and fly down the highway at 90mph that's why they have these regulations Yes, some companys are phasing out thier 16.5" wheels and tires because there is not much demand for them anymore. But NO, they are not illegal for on road use as far as I know unless something was petitioned, billed, passed in recent past that I'm not aware of. So I will be waiting to hear from the DOT and the NHTSA for an answer on this subject so I can clear up something that somebody may have heard from somebody who read something somewhere.
Nice man do it up!!! I don't think a cop is gonna call you out on the tires bro... unless you blow one open, flip in the air and land on some girl scouts sellin cookies... then they might investigate.
yeah there made by bfg just not dot approved because they are custom cut race tires the short course trucks use here in Wisconsin and out west and i cant beat the price i can pay for a set
Hahaha yeah that's why I buy the military tires!! $400 bucks, they look good... they'll get ya to another set of tires or they're a nice skinny tire for the winter... I've got Mick T's on mine now and they're 15" wide... like a snow shoe they're on top of the snow!
nice ice they must suck tho the only problem with these race cut tires are the way they are cut they suck on icey or or that inch of snow. Anything else the dig like no other and for the whole set wouldn't even buy me a new 35 km2
